This is a section of courtyard wall with a frieze of cobras on it. This courtyard is on the southern side of the pyramid. The cobra is an important symbol in Egypt and is seen on the Pharaoh's crown. For the Egyptians the cobra or uraeus represented the goddess Wadjet, a powerful protector of the Pharaoh, ready to strike and kill his enemies. She had such power that she could use not only poison but flames against the enemies of the pharaoh. The uraeus is seen on the Pharaoh's crown as a symbol of royal protection.
