The Valley of the Queens is also located on the West Bank of the Nile and, like the Valley of the Kings, it was hoped that its location would help keep it hidden from tomb robbers. Unfortunately this did not prove to be the case and the tombs were also robbed. Not only queens are buried here but princes, princesses and various members of the nobility.

El Valle de las Reinas se localiza también en el lado occidental del Nilo y, como el Valle de los Reyes, se esperó que su ubicación ayudara a mantenerlo escondido de ladrones de tumba. Desgraciadamente esto no resultó y las tumbas se robaron también. No sólo reinas son enterradas aquí pero los príncipes, las princesas y varios miembros de la nobleza.

One question which comes to mind is: “Who were the queens of Egypt?” Pharaohs could have several or indeed many wives but only two or three were queens. There were many marriages within the royal family with pharaohs marrying their sisters or half-sisters. In this way they strengthened their claims to the throne by keeping the royal bloodlines intact. The Egyptians also believed that the gods intermarried among themselves and this gave further credibility to the practice. Not all wives were family members however. They could also be from powerful Egyptian families or from royal families of other countries.

Una pregunta que viene a mi mente es: “Quién eran las reinas de Egipto?” Faraones podrían tener varios o muchos esposas pero sólo dos o tres eran reinas. Había muchos casamientos dentro de la familia real con faraones que casaran con sus hermanas o a hermanastras. De esta manera ellos reforzaron su derechos al trono manteniendo las líneas de sangre reales intactas. Los egipcios también creyeron que los Dioses casaren entre sí y esto dio credibilidad adicional a la práctica. Sin embargo no todas las esposas eran miembros de la familia real. Ellos podrían ser también de familias egipcias poderosas o de familias reales de países extranjeros.
