It was in 1922 that the entrance to the Tomb of Tutankhamen was discovered. According to some accounts a water-boy found the first stone to the stairs when he tried to find a place for his jug. We do not know the name of the boy, but the archaeologist was Howard Carter and the tomb belonged to the also forgotten young king, Tutankhamen. Filled with the treasures buried with the pharaoh, this proved to be the most fabulous discovery in the modern history of the valley.

En 1922 la entrada de la Tumba de Tutankhamón se descubrió. Según algunos versiones fue un niño que cargaba agua que encontró la primera piedra a la escalera cuando él trató de colocar su jarra. No sabemos el nombre del chico, pero el arqueólogo era Howard Carter y la tumba pertenecidos a un joven rey también olvidado, Tutankhamón. Llena de los tesoros enterrados con el faraón, este resultó el descubrimiento más fabuloso en la historia moderna del valle.

It is difficult to express my feelings upon entering the tomb. It is, as described in guide books, small and cramped. Only the inner chamber is decorated. It was hastily prepared as a resting place for a young king’s journey to the afterworld. Not designed or decorated for a king yet it represents one of the greatest finds in archaeological history. An irony of history that the discovery of this small, cramped tomb has allowed us to feel the grandeur of the pharaohs in a way unimagined before. The treasures of Tutankhamen in the Egyptian Museum, spread our over several rooms, keep thousands of visitors enthralled every day.

Es difícil expresar mis sentimientos cuando entré en la tumba. Es, como descrito en guías turísticas, pequeño y obstaculizado. Sólo la cámara interior se decora. Se preparó apresuradamente para el viaje de un rey joven al más allá. No diseñado ni decorado para un rey mas representa uno de los hallazgos más grandes en la historia de la arqueología. Una ironía de la historia es que el descubrimiento de esta tumba pequeña y obstaculizada nos ha permitido sentirnos la grandiosidad de los faraones de una manera inimaginable antes. Los tesoros de Tutankhamón en el Museo egipcio, esparcidos sobre varios salas, mantiene a millares de visitantes embelesaron cada día.

When the tomb was opened great treasure was found. Although the tomb had been opened in ancient times, the robbers had been stopped before they could empty it. This is a scene recreated by the Canadian Museum of Civilization showing some of the treasure as it was found. Unfortunately photography is no longer permitted in the tombs of the Valley of the Kings and I have not been able to locate any photos of the interior of this tomb which are not copyrighted but, should I do so, I will include them on this page.

Cuándo la tumba se abrió un gran tesoro fue encontrado. Aunque la tumba se hubiera abierto en tiempos antiguos, los ladrones fueran descubiertos antes que ellos lo podrían vaciar. Esto es una recreación por el Museo Canadiense de la Civilización de parte del tesoro encontrado. Desgraciadamente ahora la fotografía no es permitido en las tumbas del Valle de los Reyes y yo no ha encontrado ninguna foto del interior de esta tumba que no esta registrada como la propiedad literaria pero, si yo lo encuentro, será incluido en esta página.

Household equipment and food and drink were placed in the tomb for the pharaoh as he journeyed to the afterlife. Written funerary texts consisting of spells or prayers were also carved on the walls to assist the dead on their journeys.
