Luxor is located on the great bend in the Nile. The Nile here has eroded into the desert plateau, producing many steep-sided valleys with cliffs. The older upper surface of the plateau is slightly darker than the younger valley surfaces due to the buildup of minerals on rock surfaces.

Luxor esta ubicado en una curva grande del Nilo. El Nilo aquí ha desgastado la meseta del desierto, formando muchos valles escarpados y con precipicios. La superficie superior más vieja de la meseta es levemente más oscura que el valle más joven debido al aumento de minerales en los superficies de la piedra.

Arid land makes up most of this view of the Nile. Landforms includes eroded valleys and wadis (gullies or riverbeds that remain dry except during the rainy season). It is easy to see the fertile land near the Nile in contrast to the desert landscape on either side. The city of Luxor is marked on the map on the eastern bank of the river. This part of the Nile is the home to many archaeological features of interest to mankind such as the Valley of the Kings. Also labeled are long, lighter colored features of moving sand or areas where sand has been swept away by dominant winds from the northwest called eolian steaks.

La tierra árida compone la mayor parte de esta vista del Nilo. La tierra incluye los valles y wadis desgastados (hondonadas o cauces del río que permanecen secan excepto durante la estación de las lluvias). Es fácil ver la tierra fértil cerca del Nilo por contraste al paisaje del desierto a ambos lados. La ciudad de Luxor se marca en el mapa en el banco oriental del río. En esta parte del Nilo se ubican muchas sitios arqueológicas de interés a la humanidad tal como el Valle de los Reyes. También se ven los marcos largos y de tonos claros donde las arenas se mueven o las áreas donde arena ha sido barrida por vientos dominantes del noroeste. Estas se llaman rayas eólicas.
