Kom Ombo, caleche and Edfu |

Our guide was late getting to the cruise boat for the tour of Kom Ombo. He unfortunately had a rather inappropriate character for a guide, more of a military type than a friendly, welcome to Egypt kind of guy. He wanted us to more along at a brisk rate since we were already late getting started, keep quiet while he was talking and not have any questions that could possibly slow us down. Dave and I did manage to sneak off for a bit so that one of the caretakers could show us a particularly nice relief in a corner not on the beaten path. The temple itself deserves much more time than we were able to spend there. |

The next morning we once again left the boat. This time to visit the Temple of Horus at Edfu. To get there everyone had to take caleches. This is an interesting way to reach an ancient Egyptian temple and I did not even begrudge the bakeesh it cost me to have the driver take this picture. However, the tip for the driver was twice as much as the cost of hiring the caleche which does make one wonder.
The Temple of Horus at Edfu is another wonderful stop on a cruise down the Nile. Here David stands beside of the great stone falcons which guard the entrance to the temple. Once again, however, we did not have enough time to enjoy the temple as we would have wished. Cruise boats do not linger long at Edfu because it is almost time for the next great challenge on the river, which is the race to reach the locks at Esna and be somewhere near the front of the line to go through. |
