The West Bank in Luxor

At the El Gezira Hotel

To escape the hassle for which Luxor is known, we decided to stay in a small hotel on the West Bank. This was a decision that we never regretted. Our hotel was called El Gezira Hotel and was clean, friendly and inexpensive. It was just a short walk from the ferry to Luxor itself. This is the terrace which overlooks a canal. Below is the view across the canal.

There are several places to eat nearby. The Africa is across the street from the alley where you will find the entrance to the hotel. Our favorite place for a light meal in the evening was the El Fayrouz, which has a lovely garden restaurant with very attentive staff. The evenings could be very chilly and the waiter would bring a charcoal fire to keep us warm. It is also a hotel and, although we did not stay there, it looks lovely.
