The West Bank in Luxor |
![]() | To escape the hassle for which Luxor is known, we decided to stay in a small hotel on the West Bank. This was a decision that we never regretted. Our hotel was called El Gezira Hotel and was clean, friendly and inexpensive. It was just a short walk from the ferry to Luxor itself. This is the terrace which overlooks a canal. Below is the view across the canal. |

There are several places to eat nearby. The Africa is across the street from the alley where you will find the entrance to the hotel. Our favorite place for a light meal in the evening was the El Fayrouz, which has a lovely garden restaurant with very attentive staff. The evenings could be very chilly and the waiter would bring a charcoal fire to keep us warm. It is also a hotel and, although we did not stay there, it looks lovely.
